Jim Matheos is the guitarist and songwriter of Fates Warning. John Arch was the first vocalist of Fates Warning releasing 3 albums with them.....
After “Awaken The Guardian” (1986) he quit Fates Warning because he didn’t want to quit his other full time job. Then he disappeared (from the metal scene not from the world!!) until 2003, when he recorded an EP with Jim Matheos, containing two songs (including Mike Portnoy on drums!). He now works crafting custom furniture, but last year he made his return along with the other members of Fates Warning (except Ray Alder of course), with the full length album Arch/Matheos – Sympathetic Resonance. The above make a good story because this is a great album. Attached to the heavier and darker side of Fates Warning and the characteristic voice of Arch (a mixture of Geoff Tate and Ralf Scheepers), here comes a progressive metal masterpiece. It takes some time to get into it but once you’re there you can see the whole picture and you want more. I am not sure if everyone will like Arch’s voice but it’s worth the try.
