A funny story about energy efficient windows...

A woman from South California, claims that the energy efficient window installed in a neighbor's house is melting the plastic components on cars parked in her carport...

“The side view mirrors were melting,” she says. “Anything that was plastic on the car was melting.”
After having the mirrors replaced, she noticed the mirrors on the car parked next to hers were also melting.
She then observed a powerful beam of light that was reflecting off the window of a next door condominium, casting a concentrated beam over her carport.

“I’m positive that this window is what is causing the damage to my car,” says the woman.
She is not alone. Reports across the country have alleged damages brought on by concentrated sunlight reflected off of energy efficient windows..."

Well, I was trying to reach some information about energy efficient windows and bumped into this article.. My guess is that the article was more likely writen to advertise the victim's car.

Energy efficient windows are equipped with a film that antireflects the thermal energy of the sun, not the sunlight, and therefore keeps the inside of a house cool (for warm climates).

Sunlight is not reflected and second, thermal energy is not a concentrated beam, whatsoever, for glass is not a focal lens but a flat pane that reflects energy to all directions.

Third, it takes hell a lot of energy to melt car plastic, thermal energy is not capable of that damage, unless large amounts are liberatelly concentrated towards a target and for quite some time.

Do not listen to crap, energy efficient windows is a good thing for energy utilization and saving.

=D
