Evanescence is an American rock band founded in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1995 by singer/pianist Amy Lee and guitarist Ben Moody.
After recording private albums, the band released their first full-length album, Fallen, in 2003 which sold more than 17 million copies . They have released 3 albums in total:
Evanescence is not a pure metal or rock band and critics vary in terming them as one of these two, but most identify them as some form of gothic band. I would say much of their songs also include power metal elements that makes them even more successful.
Amy Lee herself says about the bands' genre:
"We're definitely a rock band, but the twist is that the band's music is epic, dramatic, dark rock."
